1. Concrete Experience

Today we had a professional development workshop of the professional teaching portfolio which is held by Ms. Tian and Ms. Yearwood. We knew the theory of a professional portfolio and in my point of view, which is “a folder, a threat, a drawer”.

After the introduction, we started to practice with our laptops by using the Googlesite which is user-friendly and easy to understand. I created my own Googlesite and learned to put some pictures and articles in English in it. Hope I can make it better and better.

At the end of the class, we had a activity which’s called “ticket out”. In this activity, students will get one piece of color memo paper, and have to write down 7 lines about “I learned, I wonder, and I hope” about today to be a perfect end.

2. Reflective Observation

Still, Ms. Tian uses powerpoint to illustrate the theory of a professional portfolio which is quite the same as that in Taiwan. However, the “ticket out” is totally excellent for students to review today’s lesson and expect the class next time. Taiwanese teachers never do something like this but just do as their project without any shifting. Confucios said a teacher has to “teach students in accordance with their aptitude (因材施教)” three thousand years ago but nowadays teacher never take students’ requirements as their accordance. How sad!

3. new English word today

Kachru: world Englishes—English was used in different places.

I like this new word very very much. Since the common use of Internet, “global village” has been a cliché. Therefore, languages had become one of the most important tools to do the interpersonal and cultural communication. Languages are equal in the world no matter it is American English, British English, Mandarin Chinese or Taiwanese Chinese. They are just used by different peoples in different places. If there is any accent existed, it’s not a big deal at all. So I appreciate people who can enjoy learning and even teaching languages.
